SONJA LANGEJANS
FOUNDER & PRIMARY GUIDE
I’ve always had a passion for adventure and exploring!
Growing up in rural Alberta allowed me to spend years exploring the foothills west of Sundre Alberta. Playing in the woods was such a magical experience as a child! Looking back on my childhood I’m filled with wonder at the things I got to witness... Seasons changing, animals and birds mating, growing and migrating, aquatic life flourishing, plants and flowers blooming and so much more. Now as an adult watching our kids grow up has really provided me with the opportunity to show, and teach, them about the wonders of nature. Living on the doorstep of the Canadian Rockies, our family is uniquely positioned to live urban, and play in the wild. Having said that my favourite city view is the one in my rearview mirror. Sharing the outdoors with people is an incredibly rewarding experience. Whether it's their first ever time in the mountains, or they are trying out backpacking for the first time, there is always much fun to be had and things to be learned. I’ll show you the world; and teach you how to navigate safely through the wild. |
In my free time I'm a volunteer Scout Leader with Scouts Canada. We spend lots of time outside as a troop camping, hiking, and exploring. I am also a volunteer Park Steward with Parks Canada. Say hi if you see me out on a trail in one of our national parks this summer. :)
When at home I enjoy swimming, lifting weights, spin class, and gardening. During the summer months you'll primarily find me running through the wild though. In the winter I enjoy snowshoeing and sitting around a campfire. Some notable backpacking experiences I've done include the Inca Trail in Peru, the Chilkoot Trail between Alaska and Canada, the Skyline trail and Tonquin Valley both in Jasper National Park Alberta, the Mantario trail in Manitoba, the Berg Lake trail and the Juan De Fuca trail; both in British Columbia. I currently have my 80 hour wilderness medic first aid training, am a certified interpretive hiking guide, and a certified overnight field leader. I have also completed the Respect in Sport program. |
